Assignment

The events of the year AD 70 had far-reaching consequences for Jews and Christians. Two historians wrote accounts of the events in Jerusalem that year. Josephus was a Jew from a wealthy and well-connected family. He initially fought against the Romans. After being captured, he declared that prophecies indicated Vespasian would become emperor. Vespasian took Josephus as a slave, but then later freed him. Josephus joined Titus's army (probably translating as well as advising). He was eyewitness to the events that he wrote about.

Eusebius lived in the early fourth century, and he witnessed the legalization of Christianity in the Roman Empire. He was a bishop in the Christian church. He wrote a history of Christianity from its beginnings to his own day.
